This week: From Vera: My favorite part of this week was creating our Word Art on our computers. We made a list of words to describe ourselves and made it into a picture. From Yeonwoo: I liked 'The Name Jar' book. I had a connection from when I came in second grade and my name was hard to say. This reminded me of that and how I felt. From Denis: This week I read in 'Heros in Training'. It is about Zeus and his friends who are going to the sea that is very hot and if you go in you get burnt. From Jan: This week, I liked looking at the different photos for different perspectives. My favorite picture was the picture that looked like a rabbitt and a duck. From Ingrid: The pattern blocks were my favorite math stations because it's fun to make different patterns and there are different colors. Happy Friday!!!
This week.... From David: The best part of the week was UN Day because I got lots of candy from different tables. I also learned that Mexico has really good food. From Marcelo: We learned a song about symmetry. There are three different kinds of symmetry - bilateral, rotational, and slide. We talked about how fractions and symmetry are similar. In PE we learned how to dance. In Art, me, Denis, and David made cuties! From Milosz: My favorite part of UN Day was when I went to the Japanese table because there was different origami shapes there, like paper airplanes. From Lucja: We had lots of interesting presentations this week. I will remember Mia's presentation about Abu Dhabi. I learned what it's like to live in a hot country. Today we went to the pumpkin patch. The best part was picking our pumpkins. From Oliwia: UN Day was great! We ate a lot of candy. Today, we went to the pumpkin patch. I really like my pumpkin. Happy Friday!!!
Dear Parent/Guardian, The ASW elementary school counselors would like to help service the needs and wants of our students and parent community the best that we can. For the last two years now, we have created a survey that we feel will help us when planning out our year-long goals for this school year. Also, the data we collect helps us know if we are meeting our own personal program goals. Please click the following link below and answer the questions by checking the box that most fits your choice so we may use this information when planning our school counseling activities. We will distribute this same survey at the end of the year to measure program success. Thank You---Your input is extremely important to us! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfqwdYmDcuUy1VXkIrUqtzxYhYfrZqF_qKySOYtJ0ullYKIxw/viewform?usp=sf_link This week in 3D: From Yeonwoo: Today we did a Color Symbol Image (CSI). I was happy about it because I'm excited to share my drawing the things that describe me. In quiet time, I finished my mandala. It looks really cool. It makes people dizzy. I am really proud of it! From Milosz: This week we did some very cool writing. It was cool because it increased the class' stamina for writing. From Lucja: We did Geometry and talked about different shapes. Today we talked about angles and made a Triangle Star. On Wednesday, we made a post of our favorite shapes and used different languages to label them. Students will be released at 11:30 Friday, 29 September Grade 3 hosts Assembly - 8:45-9:45 Tuesday, 3 October, & Wednesday, 4 October Three-way Conferences with Parents, Teachers, and Students No supervision for students. Students only on campus with parents for conferences. This week we continued to practice our routines, get to know each other during our morning meetings, and learn about the different systems around us. We're also practicing a growth mindset by being 'problem solvers' instead of 'problem performers'. Problem solvers think deeply about the problem, make meaningful plans, learn from peers, and reflect on their actions. Problem performers act quickly, without being able to explain their thinking, and believe some problems are unsolvable. In reading, we reflected on how we sometimes 'fake read'. Sometimes we read without thinking. We discussed how reflecting on our reading and taking time to read the pictures and make connections to the text help us to be good readers. On Wednesday, Ms. Hamlin came to visit us. We learned the Positive Ball game. We're a community and we learned that we can make connections by being open-minded communicators. Ms. B came in on Thursday to help us think about our thinking. We need to be reflective to think about what we need to learn best. Sometimes we need to be in groups, sometimes alone, or maybe we need a focus seat or fidget to help us focus. We also continued our Number Talks, to think creatively about numbers, and our discussion on different systems that support us. We discussed ASW and the many parts that help our school function. Happy Friday!!!
