Greetings all!
We look forward to meeting with parents on Thursday, September 1st 2016. Our Back to School evening will commence with a welcome presentation in the auditorium, followed by individual classroom presentations. More detailed information can be found in the weekly school emails. The following Tuesday we will host our Parent Conferences. There will be no classes for students on this day and meetings will occur between parents and teachers only. More sign up information will come later this week. Many students have been asking about class pictures and more information will come later this week. At this time, there are no photos scheduled for this week. Thank you and see you Thursday! Our inquiry focus at the beginning of the year is finding out ‘Who We Are’. Who are we as individuals? Who are we as a group? In what ways can we show who we are? Thursday students wrote “I wish my teacher knew…” to describe the unique qualities, interests, concerns, and questions they have. Later in the day, we used our knowledge of a variety of mathematics topics to create a number representation of ourselves.
We used The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein to talk about our relationships with others and how we strive for balanced relationships where both parties contribute. Students then rewrote The Giving Tree to create their own version of the story.
