Coming up: - Field trip on Tuesday 30 May - Sports day on Friday 2 June (rain day is Monday 5 June) This week we talked a lot about growth vs. fixed mindset and how we learn best from our mistakes. Our conversations centered mostly on our math learning, but we talked about how this applies to all aspects of our life. Check out this amazing video from Jo Boaler and Stanford University on Youcubed.org. As we continue to inquire into conflict, perspective, and the effects of conflicts; we completed and reflected on several group project activities where we had to take on roles, solve disagreements, and make sure all voices were heard in the group. We were creative and made a project only out of the items in our desks, we created a mobile to show conflict in various areas of our lives, and worked on a difficult fraction project to construct number lines. Finally, we are collecting data around conflict in our lives but tracking it over several days in our journals. We will collate the data next week to look for trends and brainstorm resolutions. We explored similes and metaphors as a way to engage readers and make our writing more descriptive by creating personal narratives from another person's perspective. We used powerful photos of a variety of conflict scenarios and tried to imagine the perspective of one of the people in the photos. Also in language, we worked with our 1M reading buddies on inferring additional understanding from photos and writing. Happy Friday!!!
