Week 32 - May 15-19

Upcoming Events: 
-  Wednesday, May 24th is a half-day.  School ends at 11:30am. 
- Field trip to Botanical Garden on Tuesday, May 30th (see permission form sent home on Friday)
- Field Day on Friday, June 2nd.  More information to come.  

This week:
On Monday and Tuesday, we finished up our MAP testing.  All of us had great focus and stamina!!!  Teachers will be working with the data on Wednesday.  

We continue to talk about conflict and all its forms.  We find it useful to think of it as a challenge, a problem, or tension.  All this week we worked with a wide set of pictures which were discussion points for all the different areas where we find conflict.  We discussed the different feelings and perspectives that each situation might present.  

We're also learning to learn from each other and explore on our own to find the answers.  We did a collaborative learning activity with Comic Life to create our own interpretation of our conflict picture - check out our blogs to see our work!  

With Math, we continue to wrestle with fractions and understanding parts of whole vs. parts of a group - it's hard!!  In reading, we're working on our expression by practicing and performing a Reader's Theater performance, first, for our class and then on Thursday with our 1M Reading Buddies.  With our writing, we're learning to be more expressive as well.  We'll examining similes and metaphors and how much they can add to our writing and the ways it will help to engage our readers.
