Parent Tech Connection When: Wednesday, March 1 from 8:45 to 9:45 Where: Teaching and Learning Center (near the main entrance) In the Elementary School at ASW, one way students use technology is to create multimedia projects to demonstrate their understanding of new concepts and ideas. In this session, we will explore iPad apps that our students use across the grade levels. Join Simon May and Kris Sheehan (with help from our elementary students) for some “app smashing”, as we create media with three or four of our apps and then put them together into one movie. This will be an active, hands-on hour where you will get to see how quick and easy it is to create your own media with the iPad. Travelling Tales - Round 2! This week we dug further into our ‘How the World Works’ unit with exploration into the forms and structures of our Earth. We recalled a lot of learning from Grade 2 about landforms so that we could list out and describe the wide variety of Earth’s surface. We used and experiment with Ferrero Rocher to learn about the many layers of the Earth’s core. All week long we focused on our ‘Caring’ Learner Profile by giving each other Valentines’ on Tuesday, sending out nice notes to strangers on Wednesday, sharing traits about us to find things we have in common, and learning from Ms. Hamlin about empathy. In Math we practiced our questioning skills by breaking down questions to find out what is being asked, what clues there are about actions to take, and the best ways to show our thinking. We also explored the Distributive Property over addition. Khan Academy was a great help! The video can be found here: https://www.khanacademy.org/math/pre-algebra/pre-algebra-arith-prop/pre-algebra-ditributive-property/v/the-distributive-property We took part in Travelling Tales again and contributed not only our ideas, but also our artwork! Reading Buddies was great fun this week; Ms. Sheehan joined us and we explored digital books and the many ways to interact with our stories. Friday was great fun as we celebrated mother tongues with our assembly and language practice. Happy Friday!!!
