Week 13 - Nov. 21-23

We are so thankful! 

 As we bring our How We Express Ourselves inquiry unit to a close, students worked on a project to showcase their creativity, understanding of communication through images, and how images can connect our global community.  Check out their messages to the world via their blogs!  All links can be found on the About Us​ page of our blog.  

​We changed our perspective of a clock by cutting it out and making it into a number line and we also make the connection that the digital and analog clocks are a tool of global communication.  
​

Students used their understanding of multiplication to solve problems of elapsed time.  

This text is wonderful tool to learn about the connection and ripple effect of our actions.  It also promotes good discussion as different opinions develop as to who is responsible for the darkness.  

We made our first attempt using the Socratic method.  This method promotes cooperative dialogue between individuals, based on asking and answering questions to stimulate critical thinking and to draw out ideas and underlying presumptions.

Ms. Hamilin joined us on Wednesday to lead a discussion on stereotyping.  We discussed the many ways that people can make assumptions or judgements about each other and how that makes us feel when it happens to us.  

We listened to Chrysanthemum, then discussed some judgements that may have happened to us, then we wrote an "I am not" statement.  In closing we wrote a positive affirmation using one word that we felt described us.  This lesson is occurring in other classes and a display of the affirmations will go up in the ES near the office.

3D's 'Adopted' Family
This holiday season, 3D will work to help a family of 5 in need.  More details on the family can be found in the attached document.  

Food, clothing, books, baby supplies, and any other donations will be collected over the next two weeks with pick up occurring on Friday, Dec. 9th.
